This Post is about the early Marzocchi Bomber Z1. I think I currently own 7 or 8 (-2 which have just been sold) all with 100mm travel original orange ones and some which had been sprayed (mostly very ugly ones 😉 ). Also I have a Z1 BAM with 130mm travel.

What we can see here :

  • Age : Left is the oldest, starting with Z1 (1996++) and right is the latest, with Z2 BAM (1999++).
  • Colour: Colour is the same, it is orange with a metallic effect. I talked to MarzocchiMark in US and he sent me this an info about the colour called Emerald SPARKLE BOMBER ORANGE DORMANT .
  • Form : Compared the Z1 and the Z1 BAM it’s the same as for Z2 : most of the inner parts are the same, we know bushings are somehow optimized (holes), the top caps are more flat and a little lighter, the arch has been more CNC machined, but from what I know stanchions and cartridges + other parts are the same.
  • Form 2 : Look at the bottom on the very right side : You can see Marzocchi changed the sliders, they extended the bottom tube. I don’t know why, maybe for optimising strangeness or may be because of changing the disc adapter type?
  • Sticker : Also stickers have been changed, first on the left is was a black/white sticker with a little bit of blue inthe ;arzocchilogo. Like for the Z2 they modernized it and changed the main colour from to blue.
  • Disc Mounts : While all of this have Canti Sockets …
    • I don’t know if a Z1 exists without disc mounts.
    • The both left sliders are from one fork. The early Z1 (not all) had a very special, unique feature: Double Disc Mounts using Formular FS Standard (which was very modern at that time) having 48,55 mm distance center to center and 5,2mm holes.
    • I don’t know, if Marzocchi also produced an early Z1 with IS Mounts.
    • 4th on the right there is is a Z1 using IS 2000 Standard having 51mm center to center mounts with 6,0mm holes.
